NW Houston to Austin route

Anyone have any suggestions for a route up to Austin that isn't as boring as just riding 290 all the way up there?

I know I could go out towards Fayetteville and get halfway there at least.

I have done this route many times, from your planned run to Fayetteville, continue on 159 into La Grange, from there head north very briefly on Hwy 77 and head west on FM 153 to Hwy 71. Turn right and go through Bastrop and just on the west-side of Bastrop turn right on FM969 and that will run you into the East side of Austin. FM 969 is a fun road. Then depending on where your ultimate destination is you can head north on 183 to go to Round Rock/Pflugerville, etc or you can just atay on it and it will turn into MLK Blvd and take smack dab into Univ. of Texas/Downtown.

Check it out on Google Maps...

Thank you for the suggestion!

I'll be heading up to Pflugerville as my final destination.

Looking to head out Friday evening to visit family in Pflugerville and then come back home on Saturday afternoon/evening.

I just need to get away from work for a day or so and visit my sister and I'd much rather be able to ride while doing it.

Thanks for the route suggestion. I took that route up there except for taking 159 all the way into La Grange to shave off some time.

Just got back home not too long ago and clocked right at 500 miles in about the last 27 hours.

On the way back from Austin we took a route north of 290 and actually enjoyed it more. 79 into Taylor, 112 to Lexington, 696, 21, 60 into Somerville.

112 and 696 had hardly any traffic and had some nice sweeping turns. It's a decent route if anyone cares to change things up sometime and haven't been that way yet.
