Try Texas Motor Speedway, not to be confused with Texas WORLD speedway.

they have even been known to swap motors. Rent a GT or better mustang and swap the motor with your old wore out V8 or even V6. How many people check under the hood when you take it back.

It was 1991... I was racing a Mustang 5.0 in the SCCA SSGT class at Road Atlanta and balled the car up in turn 4. We had three days before the Valvoline Runoffs, a full week's long event of 26 individual championships between a thousand entrants!! It was the Superbowl of Amatuer racing.

Back then all the cars had to be pretty much stock. Sure there was a lot of cheating but you really had a fairly stock vehicle for the most part. Well, we drove to the Atlanta airport and picked up a Mustang 5.0 LX hatchback from Hertz. The car was black with an auto tranny in it. Well we cannot race with an auto tranny, so that had to come out first! Swap in the complete clutch quadrant and center console from the wrecked Mustang.

Another thing to swap was the Autopower roll cage!! This was not easy because our car had rolled and crushed the roof onto the cage. So... we cut the roof off with a sawzall and started unbolting the cage assembly. Once out of the car, we pulled the carpet back on the rental and started drilling holes!! IN the cage went without a problem. We added the safety gear, our race wheels with tires, tweaked the engine and installed new sparkplugs, cap & rotor giving it a fresh tune-up with a K&N filter, four Koni shocks and some other electrical sensor tweaks. What we didn't realize but came to find out was Ford equipped the Automatic cars with a much mor aggressive computer due to the sluggish auto tranny. We also got away with 3.27 gears whereas the 5-speed cars came with 2.73's in the back!! Our first few laps were 2-3 seconds FASTER than our previous car!! We could actually run with the 1LE IROCS!!

We ended up with a 5th place finish and that was very welcome considering the field we were starting with of 26 cars. We removed all the parts, put the Stang back to stock and thanked our sponsors for a very nice paycheck. When we took the Mustang back, this black guy from Hertz walked to the back of the Mustang, bent down on one knee and put a tread depth checker on the tire... He looks up at me and says, "You guys musta babied this one... these five-ohs always come back with the hides clean wore off! We have to charge for it usually but y'all are good! Have a nice day!"

You can rent a Miata at Texas World Speedway and run the trackday events there for a easy fee.
that's classic!!!! hahaha
