Oh but it is related. You think problems should be solved by the minority, not the majority. Again back over here in reality things aren't that cut and dry.

Well, if the majority were to solve the problem, bicycles would be banned. Bicyclists cause most of their own problems, especially when it comes to not signalling for lane changes or turns, and not stopping at stop signs. Bicyclists need to learn to accept the risks of their chosen mode of transportation and quit expecting motorists to cater to them.

It's just not rational to mix a slow, flimsy, inconspicuous mode of transportation with heavy, fast, steel vehicles. Especially when the big steel things are required for everyday transport and the slow, little things are not.
Obviously bicycles CAN be used for everyday transportation but for the vast majority of us that's not at all practical.

Why should the conflict between the 2 be resolved be the majority?
Since when are bicycles not used for everyday transport? Especially in today's age when all the hipsters with their plaid and Capri pants flock to urban centers, bicycles are an everyday transportation for many.

Beyond yours or my own argument, the majority created the traffic laws forcing cyclists to use the same roads cars and trucks do. But when theres a legitimate issue caused by cagers not taking that seemingly, excuriciating extra second to pay attention to their surroundings and cyclists ask for their help, the solution is to ban them from the road?

"Yeah sure y'all ca ride on the road with us, but if you got a problem with me parallel parking and throwing my door open immediately after with no attentiveness to my surroundings, then off you should be banned anyways"

What if it was cars dooring motorcyclists? I can Billy Mays triple warranty GUARANTEE this conversation would be different.

I follow the laws and yield to faster moving vehicles any time I'm in their way, I don't want you to cater to me and suck my while I putt in front of you for 5 miles ( or do I?), but a little common courtesy would be nice...

I have zero issues with bicyclists that follow the rules of the road. Unfortunately, I haven't run across many that do.

Let's keep in mind that the topic here is to address bicycles getting doored while riding in the bike lane.
Let's not make this about something it's not otherwise I'll pitch a fit and act mature like bumblebee

If you decide to ride a bicycle on a public road where vehicles drive, or choose to ride on the road instead of the bike lane or side walk, then you ought to register your bicycle like the rest of us do so we can drive on the roads, especially if you all expect us to treat you all like we would another vehicle.

Otherwise, stick to the pata mobile.

You wanted bike lanes, you got 'em. Time to deal with the risks. You could always just keep up with traffic in the main lanes, but no...bicyclists wanted their own lane just so they could split traffic. Speaking of which, it's really no different from a motorcycle getting hit with a door in a place where filtering is legal.

To each their own. Don't expect me to hang up my cell phone simply because you wish to jump on a machine where your chances of dying are 30 times higher than a car.

I know the risks which is why I quit commuting on a motorcycle and also why I don't ride bicycles in city streets except one night per month

Sure. Never mind the fact that banning cell phone use would benefit everyone, not just a minority group.

You also have a 1 in 10,000 chance you will be injured by a toilet this year.

I would not benefit me in any way shape or form, that's why I have insurance. The cons of not being able to use my phone when I want far outweigh any benefits

I didn't realize there are laws that "force cyclists to use the same roads carts and trucks do".
I heard about laws that permitted it, although I don't think it's wise. It makes much more sense to prohibit bicycles.

Well it's illegal to ride on the sidewalk in a lot of areas, yet legal to ride on the road, so there kind of is a law saying that.

Also I'm thinking the vast majority of people like to talk/text and drive, so you would be asking the majority to change for a minority.

See, that's where your wrong. How often have you bitched about the importance of your time. If you cause a wreck by being on your phone, your insurance isn't going to reimburse you for the time spent dealing with the incident report, towing (if necessary), and the down time while you secure a loaner vehicle. At least you'll still have your phone...if it's not damaged in the wreck, of course.

To take it a step further, lets assume you're a professional driver that's completely impervious to distraction. Joe Schmoe Driver isn't, and because he's distracted by his phone, he totals your car, or runs over you while your walking out of the grocery store, or heck...even clips you while you're checking your mail.

Your mindset about the benefit is shortsighted and selfish.

Just because it's illegal to ride on the sidewalk doesn't fierce anybody to ride on the road.

Guess you need me to define "everyone," huh? OK. By "Everyone," I mean pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and automobile operators. So...everyone, including the majority, would benefit.

All those analogies you made are no different than asking people to look behind them when they open their car door. It's a whole of a lot easier for me to look back before opening my door than it is to not use my phone AT ALL for three hours a day while in my car.

I'm willing to take the risk of someone hitting my car in order to retain my right to use my phone in the car...and I think I speak for the majority when I say that
