New rider's got a question

Hey everyone. I'm fresh out of the box new around here and I've got a question I hope someone can answer for me.

I recently bought my first motorcycle off a friend of mine, a Kawasaki Ninja 300. I paid what he owed on the bike directly to the bank, we signed a bill of sales, got it notarized and everything. Now we're just waiting for the title to arrive in the mail so he can sign it over to me and I can get the bike registered in my name. My question is, the tags on the bike are seriously out of date, like... 2014, but I have proof that I bought the bike, I have proof of insurance, proof of recent inspection, everything on paper I need except the title/registration. If I get pulled over by a cop for having outdated tags, will I get in trouble if I do have proof of inspection? I just can't get the updated tags until I can get the registration switched and tbh, I haven't been waiting around for it. I've been out and about through the neighborhoods practicing and trying to scratch that itch I've had since the moment I climbed on the bike for the first time, but I want to ride it to work tomorrow.

If it is not registered you will get a ticket. It is not something you can try in a court of curbside jurisdiction. The cop is going to do his job and create revenue.

This COULD come back and really bite you. As when you get it registered they are going to ask if you have been riding it. If you have a ticket the answer is yes, and you may be on the hook for 3 years of registration.

That being said 2014 really isn't that far out of date compared to some bikes I've ridden across Texas.

Go scratch that itch and ride it like you stole it.

Welcome!
You would be driving an unregistered vehicle, which is illegal.
It's fairly low risk of you are just doing test rides, but how much you want to take is a personal decision.
Personally I'd ride it as little as you can stand and get it registered asap but it's not like you're looking at potential prison time here. As a new rider you've already got enough to be worrying about...

Can't you buy a temporary permit...or vehicle registration?

Welcome to MH!

Check for track days and get some seat time in

Good thing you got that temp tag, look out for Morg's rides in the Events sections... plenty of people to ride with there and will give you the opportunity to see some nice roads and less stop lights.

I am so so so glad I got that temp. Rode most of the way home with a cop in front of me and a cop behind me. I was sweating bullets man! Katy is crawling with coppers today! They must've heard I was comin' haha.

I'll be on the lookout for those rides. I need some people in my life who can teach me how to ride better.

Well alright, since you brought it up...

It's customary for new members to post a pic of themselves with their motorcycles. It's actually int he rules...somewhere.

So we were wondering, if perhaps maybe, would you happen to have any...

I would love to be there this weekend, but it's such short notice and I have work. Not to mention, it's illegal to ride on the highway with this temp. Once I'm in the clear, you bet your I'm gonna be there.
