Have you ever been sitting at a stop light at an overpass...and the light at the next intersection turns green? The driver had a red light, was not focused on his light, saw the green of the next intersection... violated his red light Into the path of a van and my motorcycle. The van was able to slow and dodge around the truck to the right. My options were a tad more limited.

(cont...darn edit)

From discussion with a couple people, including another HPd officer.. apparently the city can be pretty slow to respond and/or difficult to work with. On the plus side, the driver stated to myself and the officer who came to take the report (at the drivers supervisors assitance) that he was focused on the other light and entered the intersection while his light was red.

Why don't you take this up with the civilians insurance if he admitted fault:eh: Why is it the cities fault the driver was focusing on a different light? There are probably 500 traffic light set ups in Houston where more than one light is visible from an overpass intersection. They aren't gonna listen to that fight/argument.

Ah... that would be because the vehicle he was driving is owned, maintained and insured by the City of Houston.
