AFAIK, you don't "set" the shift light (I don't recall if that bike has one...???).

Why are you so worried about it anyway? You don't need it.

Based by your description, and Tony can chime in on this too, it sounds like the previous "paint" job is so horrid, it would cost a lot of money to get the bodywork in a condition that is paintable anyway.

Post up some pics.

The paint job your asking for wouldn't cost too much, but it sounds like prep is what would kill you cost-wise.

I didn't think the 600 had a shift light either... maybe its got a cluster off a 750? dunno. anyway the way you set it should be with the button on the lower left next to the shift light. at least thats how my 04 750 is. You push and hold it till its blinking and then push it and it will go slowly up through the tach and when it gets to your rpm you push it again and it will stay there and flash again and then its set.
and you have to push the button till the shift light flases to turn it off and on.

yeah the shift light prolly wouldn't be blue mine is white.

anyways chaparral motorsports has the powers stuntworx cages for both bikes. They also carry the freestyle ingenuity engine cages and the stunt rails, and 12 0 clocks, and extended sliders and other stunt stuff. chaparralmotorsports.com

+1.

I'd recommend getting parts from eBay or buying clean parts and getting them painted to your liking. Fixing a bad job will end up costing you more than an entire new set of fairings. Happened to my boyfriend.

Also, you seem to have a lot of 'How-To' questions. If you are new to bikes, maybe make a few friends here who can meet you and show you adjusting your clutch and things like that.

to adjust the clutch you need a 10mm and a 12mm, follow the clutch cable on the left hand side of hte bike from the clutch lever down to where it does into the clutch housing, there is an adjustment there.
You can make fine adjustments from the adjustemnt wheel up on the lever too.

Usually 3 quarts for oil- sometimes less. Consult the owners manual.

Use a little thread lock on the bolts (not the permanently locked threadlock though) or even teflon tape can sometimes help with that.

Come by tomorrow and I'll be able to steer you in the right direction (which will likely be to 1960 for Motorcycles Unlimited...).

Look at mi sig, maybe he can help you out. I would highly recomend that you buy a Tyger Shark cage, I love mine!
http://www.tygershark.net/
I think the 12 bar would help keep your tail from being smashed but it could also wreck your sub frame? Are you scraping tail? or getting close?
And are you sure your clutch is not going out? Slipping?
