Grand Sport Speedway

Hi there everyone. I do not post a lot on this board but I know that there are a lot of you that are wondering what is happening with this new track coming up in Hitchcock at the old Blimp base.

Today I had the pleasure of riding the track on a race bike to provide some feedback to the owner and it was quite a fun experience! I have to say that I was very impressed with the surface and the lay out for sure. It was one of -- if not the smoothest tracks that I have ever ridden. My tires were completely smooth after I was all done. It is a relatively flowing track with a turn or two that you have watch out for under braking.

And it is so close to home that it is unreal. I have never done a track day where after the day is over you are home in less than an hour but this place will allow it. All in all I have ridden many circuits across America and this has the potential to be one of the nicest tracks around. Also I have to say that the staff and people there are all just so cool.. It is not everyday that you visit a facility and feel so welcome. The paddock area is all concrete so there are no worries about pitting in the mud or dirt. They have laid the track in all black top and are working on installing the curbs and tire walls.

I would definitely get signed up for the Ridesmart trackday this Saturday August 11th if you are not already. Bring some shade and your generators though as the electricity and paddock covers are not yet installed.
All in all people I think that everyone will be pretty impressed once you pay a visit to this place. Keep in mind that the facility is still in the early stages but you can see a sign of beautiful things to come!!

What about restrooms? (I hate portocans).
Will there be an upper deck area to view the festivities?
Have you ever ridden MSRH? How do they compare?

Chris? did you once work @ the store on Spencer as a salesman? I thought i saw you at TWS (Texas World Speedway) during the CMRA races. . .good to know you're still in the sport(if you're who i think you are). That's good news for sure!!!

Track smoothness and effect on tires sounds a lot like MSRH before the first SCCA race weekend took its toll.

Re:

Okay sorry bout the delay... To answer some of what has been brought up... Like I was saying this place is in the very eary stages of development with the "facilities" and "restrooms". Yesterday there were no restrooms or running water but I think that there should be some portacans at first til everything gets going...

The upper deck is not yet finished but once the club house and all gets done there should be some places to view the whole entire track.

Yes I have ridden MSRH about 3 or 4 times and from what I can tell this place should be a little more safe than MSR once all is done. I have to say that I enjoy the MSR track as well and right now the facilities there are nicer but that is because they actually have them built.

The Grandsport track reminds me of the first time I ever went to http://jenningsgp.com/ .We showed up and the track was in the middle of a cow pasture and we were like "Whoa there is nothing here accept the track." But in no time at all it was one of the coolest places to go on the east coast.

I dont know how many of you have ridden "brand new" tracks before but like I said this place is in early stages of development so there is litterally nothing out there but the track and a paddock area to pit.. Just give them some time and they will get it up and going. I hope all of you get to ride this place sooner than later and hope all of you have a great time!! See ya this weekend!!

That was my main purpose for cornerworking for Ride Smart to get a credit to use on GSS. And now I am on the injured list. This sucks.

Eric, don't think you can make it either, can you?

It suxs being injured. Been there done that. At least you are injured during the summer when it is really too dang hot to ride and have any fun. Keep your chin up the fall is around the corner. some of the best trackdays there is.

I'm guessing if the pit isn't done for participants there is little (if any) setup for cornerworkers? Any barriers/tire walls out there? How many stations? Shade?
