UH Cougars move up to No. 6 in AP poll

The University of Houston Cougars moved up the rankings in the Associated Press poll.

The Coogs jumped up to No. 6, after opening up the season at No. 15.

Texas went from unranked to No. 11. Texas A&M is No. 20.

UH opened up their 2016 season with a statement victory Saturday over No. 3 Oklahoma at NRG Stadium. Houston beat the Sooners 33-23.

Regardless of whether Houston (1-0) ends up in the Big 12 if the conference expands, coach Tom Herman's Cougars made an opening statement that could have season-long ramifications on the College Football Playoff.

UH also moved up in the Amway Coaches Poll, jumping six spots to No. 7.

The Cougars face FCS Lamar on Saturday at home, but they might get a little work done for Cincinnati at practice this week, too. The Cougars have a Thursday night road game on short rest against the Bearcats on Sept. 15.
