Daily Craig: Start your mascots

It's just about here. In some cases the season starts Thursday and for many more this Saturday. It's college football's kick off weekend. I took some time to see what some who write or speak of this for a living had to say about the coming season. I saw one guy predicting Florida St. would win it all. Providing, of course, if they have recovered from being schooled by Houston in the last Bowl season. The Seminoles strength coach just got run in for a DUI. Maybe one too many reps. But all that aside, it will be quite the start around here. Oklahoma will be in Houston and other notable outfits like Notre Dame, UCLA, and their cousins USC all begin the fight in our state.

As to what might happen at UT or A&M? Charlie can't hang his hat on that upset of OU last year and Kevin can't milk the upset of Alabama years ago for another second. Houston is picked to be 11-2 by several experts. It would be a VERY BIG DEAL if the COOGS upset OKLAHOMA, but I DON'T THINK SO. I also don't think losing that game will have any impact on BIG 12 consideration. RICE OPENS Thursday on the road against Western Kentucky. I will need a program for that one.

Thousands in our state will watch and root for their TIGERS as LSU opens against Wisconsin. That game is at Lambeau Field in Green Bay and those fans spell GO. G-O. I am , for the millionth year, rooting for the Salukis. They open at Florida Atlantic. Tickets are scarce.
