University of Houston's basketball program to receive $20M donation

The University of Houston basketball program is set to receive its largest individual donation ever Thursday.

Tilman Fertitta, the owner of Landry's, is opening his pockets to donate $20 million to the athletics department to remodel Hofheinz Pavilion.

The building, which has been open for nearly 47 years, will display the business man's name.

Fertitta said UH belongs in the Big 12 and believes this is a start to make it happen.

"The high profilness of being in a major city like this. That you get to come into the city of Houston and recruit in this great city. I sure think the University of Houston fills a void. I've hated seeing the city of Houston become an SEC town," Fertitta said

UH will announce the particulars of the big donation at a 9:30 a.m. news conference.
