MESA, AZ (KPHO/KTVK) -
A motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash in Mesa late Tuesday morning. Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers were trying to pull the motorcyclist over for speeding on US 60 [a limited access divided freeway] but suspended the pursuit when the driver exited the highway and began heading north on Country Club Drive. [a heavily trafficked surface street] The motorcycle smashed into an SUV at the Southern Avenue intersection. Paramedics tried to revive the motorcyclist but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not hurt. Authorities were trying to determine if the motorcyclist ran a red light.

Police need to be more selective on when to pursue. Chasing someone for a simple traffic infraction puts everyone at risk. Not saying bike riders have the right but they need to look at the risks vs the benefit.

and the people in the car that the rider hit? I'm actually more concerned about the bystanders affected that really had nothing to do with the decision to run or the decision to pursue.

The pursuit was suspended. What's left?

I wouldn't consider posts a conversation. So then do away with speed limits? Let's start with the street where you live

I'm on board with that. Speed "limits" are really just suggestions anyway.

Translation: bikers should have carte blanche to run. Because danger.

Hopefully he had good insurance so the innocent can get there SUV replaced.

As far as high speed pursuits go. Our LEO needs to amend the procedure that they use to pull people over in the first place. And do like the Europeans do they get in front (not behind) of the vehicle before lighting them up. This lowers the chances of someone trying to run.
