for R6 guys

for those of u who have 99-02 model R6, how bad is the second gear slippage(transmission) problem, where bike goes into neutral when u go into 2nd gear.
I am buying a R6,and this is the only thing that is psyching me out still. Would appreciate your inputs!

Re: for R6 guys

its actually not that bad though.. its usually only when i am in high RPM.. but it's not big deal, you just pay a little more attention when shifting.. thats all.. no biggie at all

Re: for R6 guys

check out R6 forums at http://www.r6messagenet.com.
there is a 36 page thread on this starting from 2002 right till now.
but I talked to people at motorcycles unlimited today. they say it does happen, but for few R6s only and also only on those, which are abused, or have been abused.
so i just wanted to check with u guys, bcos I really like this R6 otherwise and am almost decided on buying it unless I hear something very bad.
, i hope i dont end up making a costly decision :confused1:

Re: for R6 guys

The symptoms are that the transmission briefly disengages whilst under power in second gear. This feels as though the bike is briefly loosing traction or a hiccup in power delivery.

Yamaha won't fix it under warranty claiming 'normal wear'.

Yamaha mentioned that this problem is starting to appear a bit now on the 99-02 R6 model only.
They have stopped fixing this problem now under warranty because it is happening too often!!!.

They have examined the worn gear and say it is manufactured to the design spec, so it is not their fault. !

I suspect Yamaha don't want to admit that they have a design flaw with their baby and it is hard to prove otherwise - me not being a mechanical engineer.
Yamaha have indicated it seems to happen mostly after 15,000 miles

Only cure is to replace the worn out parts and even then it will still happen due to a bad design. The replacement can be pricey upwards of $1500.00 + due to intensive labor of engine removal etc etc etc...

Well the tranny problem is inevidable on the 02 models, depends on your riding style and mileage.
