I Can Get 70 Miles to the Gallon on this Hog..

Was watching Dumb and Dumber on HBO a few weeks ago and got to wondering what ever became of the mini bike that Harry and LLoyd rode to Aspen.

After a few beers and some internet diggin', came across several old expired auctions on ebay where the owners had (unsuccessfully) tried to sell it for some ridiculous asking price.
Sent him a private message(with my low ball offer), and surprisingly - after a few days - he accepted!
Guess there weren't too many saps out looking for a rusty old mini bike.
Only bad thing is it was in Oregon, so took a little time to find a cheap shipper.

Anyways, it's here, and I'm gonna start pulling it apart to do a mild restore on it. Been sitting in storage since '94, and as you can tell, it was put away wet.
This was one of my favorite movies growing up, so having a piece of memorabilia that I can also ride was a double bonus.

So, I take it that the gear you were trying to sell is off the market, right?

It's the price I pay for not settling down yet.
Video to come. Don't expect much hoonage.
Doubt if this thing does more than 20-30mph

Didn't come with it, but was able to find an identical basket.
Couldn't figue out the light, so just got a 55w KC light that was the same size.
Took forever to figure out the bag.
Ended up being a WW2 British Army backpack.
Need to waterproof it with beeswax to darken it up.

I don't think that is the one from the movie bud. I think it is a replica. Look at the gas tank. It is missing the same red logo on the bottom portion and the yellow/red stripes on the bar look a hair different in addition to the other missing items like the mirror, wheelie bars and basket/light. Still cool though making it look like the real deal.

From what I understand, there were two bikes made for the movie; this one and the other, which was gifted to the Hard Rock Cafe in Vegas.
Per the seller, both were used in the movie at different times.

Most of the paint on the gas tank has flaked off, so not really sure what it looked like before, but it looks like it had something on the bottom before.
The holes are still in the frame from the wheelie bars, but they're missing.
Not sure what happened to them or the mirror and basket.
There's actually quite a bit of modifications done on the frame to extend them out so that two people would fit.
The guy I bought it from(Gordie Merrick) gave me the full history on it and sent this with the bike. He's listed on IMDB as the transportation coordinator on this film.
He sent this notarized letter with the bike also:
