Randy Moss visits Houston Texans training camp
Day nine of Houston Texans training camp is in the books as head coach Bill O'Brien put the team through a two-hour practice outside at NRG Park that included a visit from former NFL receiver Randy Moss.
He spent time working with the receiving corps, including DeAndre Hopkins. O'Brien said Moss arrived in Houston Monday night.
"I brought him in... I coached him for almost four years in New England," O'Brien said. "One of the things that always impressed me about him is his knowledge. His knowledge of coverages, his knowledge of different DBs (defensive backs). He really brought a lot to the table last night for our team and for our receivers."
He said Moss talked to the players Monday night about dedication, camaraderie and adding value to the football team.
Among those sitting out Wednesday practice were linebacker Whitney Mercilus and tight end Ryan Griffin, who had both been given the day off.
The big storyline developing through camp involves Jadeveon Clowney, who sat out practice for the third straight day.
"Just giving him a few days off," O'Brien said.
Staying on the field is key for Clowney, who had knee issues early in his career with Houston.
Rookie center Nick Martin also missed his third straight day.
The biggest practice for the Texans is when they work against the San Francisco 49ers Friday in Santa Clara.
"I look forward to putting in the work," cornerback Johnathan Joseph said. "It will be good to see where we stand, facing those guys."
Joseph said it was good to have Moss, who he had a chance to play against in games, at camp.
"I know the type of player he is and the type of person he is. For some of the younger guys, they idolized him growing up and then to see him firsthand and learn something from him out here. I think it's viable for those guys," he said.
The Texans are off on Wednesday and then travel to Santa Clara on Thursday.
Live reports from the KPRC 2 Sports team begin Thursday night.
