Back after many years, doing a rotation in mental health, and want to go for a ride

hi all

I'm gonna be back in Houston after finishing up my medical training in california. I'm on BARF over there (AMA club #001 bay area riders forum)

I'm gonna be in houston for at least a month working in mental health at ben taub.

I'm considering doing something a bit silly: purchasing a used cheap bike to commute on, since I'll need some kind of transportation, and it might actually be cheaper than uber/lyft/zipcar for a month.

I could buy it, then sell it later on. My family lives in Houston, so I could just keep it with them for when I return, too...

Used bike markets in Texas are SO MUCH better than in CA.

oh, and I ride a Triumph Tiger 800XC now, and I love it. My buddies and I like to go on all kinds of crappy bombed out road adventures out here.

feel free to ask me anything about mental health!

Flat black SV was sold to someone (i think on craigslist?) like 6 or 7 years ago. I've had 2 more SV650s since then! an 05 S model with racetech suspension, m4 exhaust
and a 01 model with a gsxr front end.

If you're looking for an inexpensive bike you can flip after a few months, my brother is trying to sell his 2nd gen SV650, think he's down to like 2500.

Welcome back.......

I bet you would have some great stories working at ben taub in the psych ward. Not to mention your coworkers just by themselves are pretty throwed.

anyone know if there are any track days in september where I could rent a bike?

we've got a few things like that in norcal (Feel Like A Pro track days)

that would probably scratch the itch pretty well...

plus I need some seat and instructor time to improve some techniques as I haven't sat on a sportbike in a year now.
ADV riding on the Tiger, I still try to corner like a sportbike by leaning a bit off it.

just emailed them my situation asking if they have a track day with instructors.

hoping I can make this happen.

I'm hoping to do a track day at each of the states/hospitals that I visit this year!

I can't believe I have lived in CA and haven't done laguna seca yet!
