Texans' Osweiler addresses Elway comments at camp
The Houston Texans were inside the bubble at the Methodist Training Center for Monday morning's practice.
They had the pads on for the workout as they prepared for their trip to San Francisco, to practice with and then face the 49ers this weekend.
One minor skirmish broke out for the first time during camp for the team when cornerback Robert Nelson and wide receiver Keith Mumphery exchanged punches. The two were matched up in coverage away from the ball.
Each player still had their helmet on, so the only damage that could be done was to their hands. Neither sought out medical attention after and the fight was quickly broken up.
Quarterback Brock Osweiler had several nice throws, including a deep ball about 50 yards down the middle of the field to a streaking Will Fuller, who got behind the defense.
"One of things you can't coach is speed and Will (Fuller) has a lot of it," Osweiler said. "Will just went and did what he does. He got on the cornerback's toes, broke to the post and just ran.
"It's good to finally see some of that stuff come together," Osweiler said.
Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said rookie center Nick Martin and outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney were not practicing today for precautionary reasons. He thought rest would help, but it's nothing serious.
Osweiler also commented on recent comments from Denver Broncos president and general manager John Elway about being surprised and disappointed at the reaction the team got from Osweiler when he was benched in Week 17 and for the playoffs with the Broncos last season.
"The only thing I would say, what kind of competitor wouldn't want to play in that situation," Osweiler said. "Outside of that, I think I've answered all those questions. We're now in August, just had a great training camp practice and I'm excited to play the 49ers coming up."
