Pearland LL East falls to Arkansas, 4-2, at Waco regionals

The Pearland East Little League All-Stars suffered a tough loss Thursday in the Southwestern Little League Regional tournament in Waco.

Usually a high-scoring team, the team representing Texas East only saw two runs of offense against its first opponent Arkansas. Drew Stanaland's RBI single put Pearland up 1-0 in the top of the third. A wild pitch allowed Cameron Ponce to steal home in the 4th to take a 2-0 lead. But the bottom fell out in the 5th, and Arkansas went on to win 4-2.

The regional is a double-elimination tournament, so Pearland will play Louisiana at 5 p.m. Friday. A win would give them the day off to practice on Saturday before taking on another opponent on Sunday evening.

The regional championship game is Aug. 10.
