took a 2 day trip to west of austin- pedernales falls/enchanted rock

i went out to pedernales falls and enchanted rock over the last 2 days. it was a great ride. would have liked to take some more windy roads to get there, but there was no shortage once we arrived. the driveway to pedernales falls park was so much fun. very windy, and a couple of nice corners where the road seemed to just drop straight down.

the roads out there really tore the out of my tire. i had cords showing most of the way around the rear tire, and i'm due for the second service on my duke, so i'ts sitting in cycle shack now, getting a new tire, service, and probably around $400 lol. on the ride home last night, the little duke was struggling to get in the 90's. a couple of months ago, it would get to 105ish with not much effort. i like my duke, but that cbr300r was looking pretty nice. so much cheaper, better fuel econ, and probably will probably run forever.

it sure is. if it was a bit more developed out there, i sure would like to live in that area. it's hot, but dry, and the roads and rivers are so nice. i just went to new braunfels a few weeks ago with family, but i'm planning it as my next trip with friends

climbed Enchanted a few years ago with the wife on an Anniversary trip out to Fredericksburg....cool place. Wish I had 2 days with no responsibilities to do something like this. Oh wait, Sol's Awesome Hill Country ride is right around the corner!

Did you carry tents and everything on the bikes or did you have a car following?
Bike only camping would be very impressive.

it would not have been difficult to bundle my solo tent with my backpack on my rack. if i had some saddlebags it would have been easy. i could have packed jerky and trail mix to eat in one bag, and the other would be reserved for water.

on this trip, the kia soul was our dedicated pack mule, and occasional escape from the heat. i think i did pretty well, too. the 2 guys i went with are around 10 years younger than me, and i was usually leading on hikes and such.

enchanted rock was so much fun this time. our decent was crazy. mostly sliding, a couple of controlled drops from like 10 foot drops.
on the way to the rock, i saw a mountain lion, which was crazy for a piney woods country boy like myself. i also saw a javelina, which was a lot less of a deal, lol. on the rock, i spotted a bob cat about 40 feet from my position.

it was a really fun trip, and i want to get back out to that area again real soon. i'm thinking a tubing trip in new braunfels next. in a couple of weeks or so.
