Running track days isn't exactly a cash-cow. I think Buck outlined his costs vs benefit in another post recently...

30 min sessions.

fatigue can be a factor for some... thirty minutes of riding all out as fast as you want/can can be a bit much... i think LSTD has found a better balance at 20 minute sessions... i've seen PLENTY of folks come in BEAT after a solid 20 min session...

just my 2c... :dontknow:

I disagree mate... Trackday cost is done by taking the daily lease for the track divided by the intended number of riders for that day... I think TWS (Texas World Speedway) leases it out for 4.5K per day. So divide that by 60 is 75 per person. Factor in the medic and usage of the track's comm stuff ... will bring it up to about 80 per person... then we need to factor in ppl and profit... boom! at least 150 per person..

I think 30 minutes track time is good for tracks that are longer than 2 miles or 2.4 miles long

That's the beauty of the 30 min session, it allows the riders 30mins or 20mins or 15mins, it's whatever they choose.

Examples

rider A chooses to ride all 30 mins

rider B decides to wait ten minutes and then ride the remaining 20 mins left in the session.

riders C rides for 15 mins and then decides to come in for a quick 5min break
and finishes of the last 10 minutes in the session.

and so on and so forth...

didnt say or imply it was a money maker. just saying having more track organizers may make more competition and make some lower the price in order to gain re-peat customers.

fwiw, noone at lstd does trackdays for a living... the owner do it for the love of the sport... if it was about margin$$$ they would have quit about eight years ago (when they first started)...

but we're going OT so pm me if you want and we can talk some more about why your assumption above so painfully incorrect...

i hear ya man... but it only takes one bad rider (who thinks it's an endurance race stint) to stay out longer that he should have and make things not so good for everyone...

instead of coming in, the rider stays out for the full 30 mins, gets fatigued, and ends up in a situation where his speed exceeds his riding ability... then he ends up taking himself or (worse still) someone else out...

it's an opinion thing though... and while 30 minutes sessions could certainly help one train for endurance racing... i still prefer the lstd format of 20 min sessions...

thats true but the riders at these 30 minute sessions are usually invited or know the rules or are experienced in knowing their limitations. its not like just anyone can sign up and ride like they want without supervision.

wether its 20 minutes or 30 minutes, i think having smaller groups on the track make the bigger difference.
