Legal Question help!! Please respond soon!!

If you want to get an ID card (Not DL) at DPS and have a warrant for your arrest, will that be flagged at the DPS? I mean does that info pop up on their database while getting a card or renewing it? If so will they arrest you on the spot?

I belive it will come up...I have warrants out of state that dont come up here in Texas but if the Warrant is issued in Texas Im pretty sure it comes up.

Also depending on what its for they might not even care ie...unpaid ticket or something small.

just my 2 pennies

They gave you the option of paying it off at the court house or escorting you to jail? Was this in Houston?

They let you leave the premises and go pay the fine?

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm pretty sure it will show too but I just want to know if they will actually detain you there on the spot.

Do you have a DL and are just looking to get an ID, or are you getting an ID since you don't have a license?

Do you know any Police officers?

Where my warrants are I had a buddy run my name in his car computer and they show up...Each warrant has a different extradition.

call the city the warrant is in and see what the bond is set at...you should be able to just pay it with no problems..cant imagine more than a couple hundred for a wheelie.

Your best bet is to contact the court that you have the outstanding warrant in by phone, and ask what the total fine will be to lift the warrant.
That way you won't have to be looking over your shoulder all of the time, and if you do get pulled over, you won't risk going to jail, having the bike impounded etc.

If you don't have the cash, ask whether you can do community service, or you can serve a few days.

Good luck.

Future mother in law is a DL lady at an anonymous DPS office... all DPS offices have an officer on site. If warrants are present (and depending whom they are with), an officer may slap you on the wrist, tell you to get it straight and then let you on the way. On the flip side, he may have just spilled his coffee, now in a bad mood, and you are his first way to make "justice" on his spilled coffee and may take you "off the streets". If I were you, I'd heed Patricks advice.

I know a couple of people who have been picked up for their warrants while at the DPS office.

If you're waiting on the clerk to finish up your paperwork and she says, "Oh, can you wait right here for just a minute please Mr. Los?" and then heads to the back office - time to make a break for it!

If you do go to court use this Law/ bails bond office i've used for years. Kubosh, a block from Lubbock downtown court house 713-222-0880. Pay them like $50 and they'll go to court for you and will seek to settle with the D.A before you get to the judge, just F.Y.I, G.L !
