Honda CBR 300 - problem

Honda has issued a "stop sell" order for all '15 and '16 cbr300 bikes.

Seems there is a crankshaft/connecting rod issue. Fix is to open engine and replace crank which is a 10-12 hour job.

Daughter got a call from Pasadena Honda about this for the '15 bike she bought which is still on showroom floor.

No word on when parts will be available.

That kinda sucks, so she won't get a bike any time soon then ? Maybe they can do a nice little refund, and she can go pick up an R3, it's beastly!

From the American Honda Powersports website: Recall Information - Honda Powersports ...

NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: AWAITING#
CAMPAIGN DESCRIPTION: CB/CBR300 ROD BEARING RECALL
MFR CAMPAIGN ID: KB9
RECALL DATE:
RECALL STATUS: VIN/HIN Required

And from this website: Honda CBR300R & CB300F Stop Sale / Recall - Potentially Defective Crankshaft | Honda-Pro Kevin ...

2015 2016 CBR300R & 2015 2016 CB300F Motorcycle Recall

Honda just announced a STOP SALE NOTICE of model year 2015 through 2016 CBR300R and CB300F motorcycles to repair a potentially defective crankshaft on affected motorcycles.

What could happen if your crankshaft fails? If the connecting rod bearing retainer breaks, the engine may stall and/or not restart. An engine that stalls while riding increases the risk of a crash.

Effective immediately, dealers can not sell any 2015 through 2016 CBR300R and CB300F motorcycles until it has been repaired according to this Service Bulletin.

Affected Units:

2015 CBR300R All
2016 CBR300R All
2015 CB300F All
2016 CB300F All
American Honda will be mailing notification letters to owners of affected CBR300R & CB300F motorcycles by late August, 2016.

In my world if she hasn't taken delivery of it the sale is not final, unless she just has her heart set on it.

Clearly the only logical choice at this point is the CBR1000RR , total justification imo.

It's almost as if these extremely cheap bikes, made with unqualified labor in unsupervised conditions... aren't made very well! Whodathunk. I'd pay 20% more for a bike properly put together in Japan, Germany, Austria, etc. over one of these machines made in Thailand or India.

cbr 250/300 are pigs anyways.

And my poor '08 blade and friends were all stuck with those defective primary gear/crank issues as well... where the "fix" was a complete engine overhaul/12+ hours of warranty work and no dealerships would even think about it until Nov/Dec.

Honda... wtf is wrong with y'alls bottom end R&D?

Lol... you have any idea how many bikes are built and assembled by "unqualified labor" in India, Thailand and China?

I'll give you a hint - millions.

Give them an extra $.50 a day and it will be good.

Also a problem with the triple tree and I also saw some post about camshafts breaking.

Makes the Ninja 300 look pretty good.

That's one of the reasons I choose the ninja over the R3; The R3 is too "new". The bugs haven't been worked out yet.

Would you please share your source of information that shows a slight increase will improve quality?

Besides, it sounds like a design issue, not an assembly issue.

I'm sorry, I forgot to put my statement in sarcasm font.

On the same hand, give anyone extra money and their work quality will (should) increase.

Update - today the dealer refunded all her money because they have no idea when the parts to repair will be available and they can sell it to her.

But don't complain about the KTM on the RC390 forum! They tend to get a little testy!!

Two things I have learned about the hard way in forty years of riding. Rule number 1 don't buy a bike off the internet unless you can ride/see it or you can fix anything that shows up. Rule number 2 never buy a bike in the first model year.
