My coworker used to ride an old Harley. He now rides a ZX14. Anyway he laughs about how he used to keep enough spare parts and tools in his saddle bags to pretty much rebuild his engine and trany ... of course he's joking, but he sure doesn't look fondly back to those days.

Story time.
A long time ago,I ran into one grizzly, drunkish looking older dude in his 50s trying to fill up his tank that walked up to me and tried to buy my earrings. I was like ummm... no? So he called over his 'girlfriend' that looked about 19 and was asking her "aren't those the kind you want for your nipples?" Now, i'm thinking.. great, he's gonna just try to rip 'em out of me. So I put my fuel dispenser latch thingy on lock and get ready to fight, and he asks me again how much I wanted. I told him 'not for sale' they were a gift. lol Dude got all apologetic and says "no problem man. C'mon Spider, let's go." Spider was her name? WTF? :laughing6 I don't get that biker lifestyle at all. Some look like big meanies, but are softies on the inside, I guess :laughing6

You could really spend ome quality time with Pops-in-law if you went with him once or twice to the salon to get your hooves buffed out, mang! Come on make an effort!! :laughing6

Yeah, I know a few big dudes that get manicures. They're black too. Hmmm.

I have seriously never experienced that with mine. of course, when I rebuilt it, I used liberal locktight , but never had a problem for the 12k miles it was stock either.
dunno, seriously, it must be the evo motor design that has made them semi leak free and somewhat reliable. Your comments and others, prove its a well known fact harley had serious issues with construction and reliability in the past, amazes me, with knowing that reputation, people still buy em like crazy.
I guess, if you look at the numbers, they started selling kabillins of them with the advent of the new evo design and management changes, somebody musta noticed the reputation of the last 60 years wasnt a good one, even though they still sold em all the years, it would be nice to improve once in a while, I guess they decided to finally

Oh yea, the evo motor was a VAST improvement over the shovelhead. I had a AMF 74' FLH that was a piece of . People said harley's quality went down when AMF owned them that is a understatement. I have had three evos that I liked but i had to put money into them to make them run better(carb, pipes and ignition) but I did like them. But they don't have much horsepower unless you really put some money in them. They are more just for cruisen and the comradery. Which harley has done a great job promoting even the japs will admit to that.

yup, the is they tune them so lean to pass emissions and they run like from the factory, I love mine, but I had to make it a decent ride, that said I dont think I would buy another new one, unless something changes, like a v-rod technology powered sporty or something like that.
