Not a happy camper

ok i get through the day riding around fine, get home take a nap and what not. leave and now realize my right shock seal is leaking. it was fine when i got home cause i had just looked in that area before i went inside. i guess what i am askin for is either prices to get this fixed since i most likely cant do it myself. also the cheapest way to go about fixin this quickly cause this is practically my only way around. thanks

Average around $200 to get a shop to rebuild the forks.

that's the pair... I just got a quote from Motorcycles Unlimited on doing a set, off the bike...

that's ballpark price..

And if one is leaking, do both.

If it is leaking bad enough to get the caliper wet, better safe than sorry and park it.

Unless you can find a real smooth road...

Yup.. All I asked for was a price on changing seals and oil, off the bike.

Mine on the Bandit with new gold valves, springs, modified rebound valves, new oil and shipping were closer to $400.. money well spent

IMO, it's best to get both done at the same time.
Bring it by, I've got the parts in stock and can turn it in a day or 2.

its best to not ride it, if your pads get soaked with that fluid, theres another $75 for new ones. OR WORSE!

here are a couple pics to show the extent of it...my problem is i dont have the 200 bucks to take care of it right now and like i said before this is practically my only way to get around. what has me confused is i had 23k miles on my 04 and never had a problem with the shocks, but i got 16 almost 17 on my 06 and this happens??? wonder if me gettin the suspension adjusted had a small factor cuz my 04 wasnt touched where as my 06 has been adjusted (and i almost think it was/is too soft) i dont know lol

Suspension set up won't cause fork seal leaks.

If you're doing wheelies and slamming down hard, that can do it.

More likely than not, you either had a bug get killed on your forks, dry and then nick your seal, or some dirt got in there, going the same thing.

Get both fork seals done, you'll eventually need the other done soon anyway.

+1 on the wheelie and bug guts thing. Part of owning and maintaining a bike, just like changing your oil, is the maintenance of the forks. Seals and related parts are not meant to last too long, and with "abuse", they'll wear out quicker ("abuse" means doing anything other than regular riding- no wheelies/ stoppies or hard riding in the corners like track riding and backroad SMR's).

+1 on the not riding that any more- that's a good leak you have there. I would stay off the bike until I got it fixed if it were me.
