Paris Bans Older Bikes

Quote:
If your particular (peculiar) motorcycling goal is to ride your 1947 Triumph T100 down the Champs-Elysees to commemorate the Allied liberation of Paris, you'd better move quickly.

Beginning July 1, Paris will begin phasing in new vehicle restrictions to deal with the city's air pollution problem. Cars built before 1997 and motorcycles from before 2000 will be banned.

Maybe this is due to them having 2 stroke bikes. They have a lot of 2 stroke mopeds and such in other countries that really contribute to the issues. I don't know if this is the case there but one can assume knowing what it is like in other countries.

This is really no different than the EPA here in the US. Remember when emissions testing came to Harris County? Man I remember sweating bullets on every smog test as a teenager that didn't have money to buy a newer car back in 1994.

1997 for cars and 2000 for bikes,,,thats quite harsh...they could've at least did 1989 for all vehicles... if they even went such a route...

some of the antique bikes/cars that have been fully restored prob have better emissions than some of the trashier unkempt autos from the 70's 80's 90's that still survived...

such a backwards statute

Maybe you will be able to get a bad deal on some vintage bikes from there?

That is a f*ed up rule.
Even the worst motorcycle gets as good or better fuel mileage as the average car.

One thing that you guys should remember about the French. The citizens won't put up with it if it's not a good law. They'll go on a general strike and shut the whole dam country down. They (liberals and conservatives) stick together and get what they want.

If only the sheeple of this country could compromise on things from time to time. Instead we let crooked career politicians weasel their way out of doing their jobs.

True, but burning less fuel doesn't mean they make any less pollution. Older motorcycles pollute more than cars of similar vintage due to lack of catalytic converters, lack of fuel injection, etc. The idea that they burn less fuel (I believe) is partially why they got away with fewer emissions restrictions for as long as they did.

My 78 T/A does not have catalytic converters only headers in to 4" exhaust with mufflers to 4" outlets. We put my car on the emissions test to see what it would do. When idling my car runs a little rich and would not pass the idle test. Soon as we brought the rpm's up the car burned clean and would pass. Only thing we can figure is the motor is setup for max hp on 93 octane and is very efficient at burning all of the fuel. 598ci, 1090 cfm carb, 851Hp on 93 Octane.

Sitting at a red light I'm a polluting fool....

Wait wut, you mean that Paris and France are not the same? Is that anything like the State of NY and NYC?
