Knobbies are ok and will pass inspection. Just cant be marked "off highway use only" If they are cut that off with a razor blade and you're good to go. They DO NOT have to be DOT stamped. That is not inspection criteria. If inspector tells you otherwise hold firm and make them go read. They'll come back to you all sheepish and embarrassed with passing inspection.

I've had good luck with Turner's on FM646 just east of Hwy 3. I recently got my Harley inspected and had forgot to check the rear tire before going there. When he said he needed to check the rear tire, I felt the pucker factor coming on. He glanced at it and said "OK". I looked at it and couldn't believe I had been riding on it - slick as a baby's but down the middle. He passed it anyway. I've been using him for years and he's passed my XR650L with the knobbies on it. As long as the horn works, high/low beam headlight works, tail/brake light work, license plate light work, and you have insurance, you should be good to go. Best call before going there to make sure he's open.

If I'm not mistaken, Chad has been in CO with Wil for the Pikes Peak Race...
