Pulled over this afternoon / TuneECU question

Just got pulled over on the way home on 59. Big "thank you" to trooper Stoner for being really cool. Turns out he appreciated that I actually stopped and he didn't have to chase me. Got a warning for the speed.

However, while I know I was speeding, I have no idea how fast I was going (and he didn't say). My speedometer/odometer is way off after my sprocket change on the Triumph. So, just wondering if anyone knows how to use TuneECU to adjust the speedometer. I can get GPS speed off my phone to figure out what % it needs to be adjusted, but after playing with the program I still can't figure out how to make the adjustment. Google (and Triumph forum) searches tell me it can be done, but no one actually walks through how to do it.

Looks like you need to find this screen, go to "parameters," and select "speed adjust."

hmm... I've seen the mapping screen before, but don't remember ever seeing that option, but I've only used the mobile app so far. I'll see what I can find this afternoon. If nothing on the mobile app I may just have to get the pc version on my laptop.

Thanks

Heh...not my bike. Just an image I Googled up. When I changed the gearing and did the wheel conversion on my Strom, my speedo was off 16.8%.

I think mine is somewhere between 10-20% off, if speed of traffic and the radar sign in my neighborhood are to be believed. My speedo reads about 35 when the radar sign says 30. The reading seems pretty close to the speedometer in my car, but I don't know how much the smaller profile of the bike might affect the reading. This morning I was moving the exact same speed as traffic on 59 (between hwy 6 and BW8) with my speedo reading 80 mph.

I didn't have my OBD2-USB cable handy in the garage last night so I rebuilt a set of carbs instead of messing with it. I'll get around to messing with this over the weekend though.

When you find out let me know! I looked online as well there was never a step by step how too. I got lucky and found a member online who fixed my last bike but lost his contact information over the years.

I need to get my speedo fixed as well, and the fan idea is even more of a reason.

just because it is off by 10%, does not mean use that number for the adj.

Trust me.

Start at 2.5%, ride it with the GPS, at various speeds. Make note.
Adjust .1 to .2 at a time. Until you get a happy medium.

This method is partly why the Android/Bluetooth came about.

After getting my exhaust installed, I finally got around to messing with TuneECU. I could not find the speed adjust or fan temp adjustments on the mobile version so I just loaded the program on my laptop. Got the 20106 map (TOR factory map) installed and fan temp adjusted, still need to get the speedo corrected properly.

I appreciate the offer. Right now, the plan is to get the bike inspected this afternoon and then work on the speedo afterward, assuming it passes. Will let you know if I end up needing any help though.

I'm hoping to be able to spend saturday working on my kitchen, but we'll see.

yep, did the adjustment against GPS this weekend and ended up at -10.0%. Started at -2.5%, not much noticible change. Went to 5.0% and found I was about half-way to matching GPS. Went to -7.0%, and slightly closer, but still a way off. Jumped straight to -10.0% just to see what would happen and it was just about dead-on. I'll do some more testing at highway speeds over the next week or so just to verify, but it seems pretty close judging by traffic pacing this morning.

Fan was already set at 103 C on the base map, I bumped it down to 98 C. I may raise it back up once it starts cooling off a bit, but the temp sure goes up quickly once I get into traffic. I'm running of a 20106 map right now, but that doesn't mean I won't find something that sounds like it'll work better to try in the near future.
