Alcan Highway

Has anyone done it? Tomorrow I will be prepping to leave for the Alcan highway for Alaska! Currently doing my research on it now- just looking for some extra pointers and things I may miss. (I am a wee bit nervous )

I'm excited and nervous for you! Maybe time for a GoPro with plenty of memory and extra batteries...

I did it in 2007, Houston to Prudhoe Bay and back in 17 days.

Nothing can prepare you for what you will encounter. Just roll with it.

I did it in '12 on a KLR and we got lucky with good weather most of the time.

We did a good amount of partying when we'd finally stop around 11 each night; The Alaskan Bar in Dawson Creek is pretty fun and was fully of oil patch workers & eskimo h00kers when we were there. We cut off to head to Dawson City for D2D and the Top of the World Highway.

When you get a Delta Junction at the end if you see a big GI Joe looking dude named Dave buy him a beer. He gave me a ride after my engine cratered by his gold mine and let me crash in his big workshop.

Hahahaaaa after 36 hours of straight riding we were exhausted and stopped just past the
Yukon on the Haul road. There was a diner on the left side of the road that was closed.
I tried the door and it was open.

The three of us laid down in the booths and crashed. At 6 am the owner flipped
the lights on, without missing a beat, and said good morning to us as he was
making a pot of coffee. Apparently he was used to this.
