Astros Correa leaves game with injury
Astros shortstop was forced to leave Wednesday's game against the Texas Rangers in the fifth inning after he twisted his left ankle running to first base.
Following the game, Astros manager said x-rays were negative and deemed it a left ankle sprain. He said Correa is day-to-day. The Astros begin a three game series at Tampa Bay on Friday.
Correa had bounced a ball to the third baseman and Correa ran to the inside of the first base bag to avoid being hit by the throw.
When his left foot hit the inside of first base, his foot slipped off the bag into the dirt and he twisted his ankle.
He immediately knelt down to the ground and awaited the Astros training staff to reach him.
He was able to put some weight on the ankle as he walked off the field, but was taken out of the game.
Correa is hitting .256 this season and leads the team with 68 strikeouts.
Astros second baseman Jose Altuve slid over to shortstop in the bottom of the fifth. It's the first time Altuve has played a position other than second base in the major leagues.
