The race is run by the Island Governments Dept of Tourism hence the name but is now the Dept of Economic Development.

They are endurance races against the course and the clock. In one weeks time the races cover more miles than a season of MotoGP. So you won't find any full coverage just highlights.

The big bikes need to stop for a rear tire and fuel every other lap, so a 6 lap race has two pit stops and lasts nearly two hours.

The riders run several road races in a year, the ulster, NW200, cookstown, southern100, MacauGP are some others. There's been talk of pulling it all together into a world series of road racing but it's tough to see it happening.

Nevertheless the competion is at an extreamly high level currently.

As Chucktser said he has hung up the leathers.. This nasty crash at the ulster last year the reason why.

Lucky for him they removed some trees from the outside of that corner where he crashed so he was fortunate to get away with only a broken back, ribs, and wrist which would required a rod to be inserted in his spine.. He has a lot more potential on the TV currently anyway.

you know its a bad crash when people consider THAT fortunate. If there had been trees there he might have been torn apart into many pieces.
