Well, I usually ride with a few select friends, and we have a more or less speed limit, which varies depending on the roads.

My personal rule for new back roads is no more than double the yellow recommended curve speed into the corner.. and then see how the curve opens up from there. Sometimes less if I can't see what is around the corner, but usually a good rule of thumb.

We usually ride at a steady, elevated speed and don't use the brakes all that much.

That's why I am leary to ride with new people, unless we tone it down. I may lead them into a corner at a much higher speed than they can handle, or they may lead me into something too fast for my comfort.

That is also why I specifically posted this ride up for newbs that want to take it slow and easy, and have fun with a new experience.

It is also why I have been stressing that more experienced riders will get bored, because we are going to be going at or below the speeds, including the corner signs. At least until my control riders and myself get a feel for everyones abilities and then adjust accordingly.

I want to kind of look around take in the sights, see how the traffic is, try to remember landmarks, how many places there are for cars to pull out of, what kind of corner it is if it is long or sweeping or short or a s curve. I like getting a bunch of information in its not enough to say "man this road is straight you can top you bike out". See I don't know your mind maybe you can do that maybe, I can't. But get me on a road that I know and I can ride a bit faster but still I cant top out my bike cause it is a public road there could be a car or road kill or a cop. I like the slower pace. I slow down before the turn and work my way through it. I see to often in traffic people zip thought the turn faster than the guy in front of them and then BAM! heavy on the breaks. Sunrises can take out the best I don't like surprises, I want to see whats up there how the road is. Now if I ride a strip that I really like and I've checked it out I might u turn and crank it up pretty hard. Then I start thinking about my two kids and I back up off the throttle.

One last thought and I'll quit spamming my own thread.. LOL!

The street is not a race track. You don't run it like a track. It takes a different set of lines. Do all your braking before the turn. Slow in fast out, (which actually works well on the track). Late apex, and harder turns. You always leave room in the lane for line changes, debris avoidance and to stay away from the on-coming traffic. No corner cutting, stay in your lane or slow down.

I will hold the spots until tomorrow evening (8/6), then I'll figure you made other plans....

Thanks again for the response on the ride, and we'll try and do it again soon on a Saturday to resolve the conflicts that came up on this one.
