Newb-Beginner Group ride 8/12 Sunday

Some interest was shown from first timers, so here's the deal.

Going for an approx 200 - 250 mile ride on some nice backroads. This is specifically aimed at first timers for group rides, and newbs looking to get more comfortable on the twisties. I prefer at least a couple thousand miles under your belt, and no track stars or peeps looking to stunt and inccur unwanted attention. Think "mature, responsible" and you'll get the drift.

Room for about 6 people, to go along with the 3 already planned. Will not go with anymore than 10 total.

There will be two experienced riders, maybe 3, to lead and sweep, and help point out tips and tricks to help you get better when the road bends.

This is going to be a very mild pace, with frequent stops and lunch. We are working on the group dynamics, as well as introducing the newbs to The Pace. Basic idea is to get everyone comfortable riding with others, then upping the pace a little at a time, always maintaining the comfort level. Spacing is going to be increased from the normal 2 second rule. I don't plan on EVER going any faster than the slowest riders can handle. You will not get left behind.

Read between the lines, and understand that experienced peeps will get bored pretty quick.

I have 30+ years street experience, sweeper has 20+. Glad to offer any help or pointers along the way.

Depending on where the largest group is coming from, is where we'll meet. I'll be coming from the 290/1960 area, then up thru Tomball.

Time: leaving my side of town 9 ish, will firm up as the day get closer
Route: not going to be published, route maps will be provided, as well as frequent stops to gather the flock
Gear: Basic: jeans, jacket, helmet, gloves. More is better, will still be warm out, but show up in shorts and tees and we'll say nice to meet you, maybe next time.

At the planned pace, plan on being on the road 5-6 hours, including lunch.

If this works out, we'll do it again for more experienced riders with no group riding experience, and a little more agressive pace.

Pm or post up if you are interested, and we'll narrow it down in the next couple weeks. Anything from a Ninja 250 on up is welcome.

Final note, if it is raining we will reschedule.

PM if you are serious, it is going to be a 4 day weekend on bikes. Not laser speed; all new roads for all of us so far.

But back on THIS topic, please don't muck this thread up for those that are actually interested.

thanks!

I've got about 8 thousand miles under my belt, but I'm not experienced by any stretch. I AM NOT comfortable leaning in the twisties, but would love to know how to improve my riding skills. I'd love to come along on this noob outing. Depending on the wife's plans, I may be able to get her to come on her FZ as well.

That would be great, my wife is along as well. She is still a long ways off from knee dragging as well.

Some questions on what this ride is going to be have been asked, so here is a little clarification..

This is going to be a very relaxed, easy paced ride. It will be "slow" at the beginning, at or below the posted speeds on the straights, and at or below the yellow caution recommended corner speeds.

We will be riding out on the NW side, Forest roads, beginning and ending around the Tomball area.

As the day goes on, we'll pick up the pace as the group agrees. Goal is to get to the point where we can run the road at the posted speed, corners included, i.e. The Pace. May or may not get there on this ride, but by the end you should have an idea of what it is we are all talking about.

Spacing is going to be more like 4 seconds, as opposed to the normal 2. Plan is to rotate the group around when we stop, so everyone gets a feel for being in the front, middle and back.

We'll be stopping every 1/2 hour or so at the start to make sure everyone is on the same page and nobody is getting spooked. Other stops may occur as needed to help anyone who needs it. Any tips or tricks we can offer to help are free for the asking, and I am looking at having a 3rd experienced rider to follow a noob at request, to point out anything to improve their skills in the group or in the twisties.

Roads are curvy, but not super tight or tricky.

There will be no knee or elbow draggin, or riding wheelies or anything else to draw attention to the group, or spook anyone involved.

Right now we have 6 to 7 interested that I feel will work, and a few more that probably would be bored after the first hour or so. It is a good mix so far with 3 gals included.

Again, this is for those that have never gone on a group ride, and are not track stars in the making.

I'd like to go if there's still room. If not, no worries. Please put me on the list for the intermediate ride when it comes up.

Thanks.

Maybe I should hold out for the intermediate ride. I just went on a group ride Saturday and I felt more comfortable on the new bike than I thought I would going above the recommended corner speeds. I feel fairly comfortable on the bike, I just need more time feeling out it's limits and mine in a relaxed environment. I would love to have an experienced guy giving me some tips though.

I'm actually probably not going to be able to make it that weekend due to family being in town. Sundays, I'm supposed to be in church anyways
