Rossi meets Motobot

Has Valentino Rossi met his mechanised match

REMEMBER Yamaha’s R1-riding robot? Yamaha has been quiet about the project since the start of the year but this new video has just emerged showing Valentino Rossi meeting the Motobot for the first time.

This new video tells us a couple of things. Firstly, Yamaha looks to be getting closer to its goal of getting the Motobot to lap a circuit at its target of 124mph by 2017. Secondly, if the part of the video when Rossi take of his sunglasses and says 'Wow!' is anything to go by, Hollywood won't be calling once he's finished racing bikes.

Yamaha unveiled the Motobot at the Tokyo Motor Show near the end of last year as a test bed designed to help with the creation of rider safety technology, and has stated that the robot is being developed to beat Rossi.

In January it announced that the project has moved into its second phase – being developed to work on a circuit.
