Summary: declining participation here is a result of phone apps, social media alternatives, and a market shift to adventure bikes.

Just an observation, but most motorcycle forums such as this one were much more active 10-20 years ago. With the rise of smartphones which feature group chat apps like WhatsApp, GroupMe, et al and websites like Reddit (r/moto), Facebook, and Instagram - younger generations of riders congregate in those communities and organize meets that way.

The only exception to this trend is Adventure Rider which has a thriving community, namely because adventure bikes are the current and future booming segment, and it has very active users. Neo-retro standards and vintage-looking bikes also are a healthy segment, but those riders stick to the above websites. In contrast, sportbikes (which most rider communities were based on) have been dying out since the Great Recession, particularity 600cc. This was due to a cultural shift, lack of disposable income for 18-34 year olds, insurance costs, lack of proper infrastructure like the UAE and Germany, lack of lane-splitting and lane filtering laws, etc.

@green600 Yeah, about that. We split lol (hence the reason I'm now back on 2 wheels) lol.

@auguste I couldn't agree more, I've noticed the takeover of supermotos.
