Dani Pedrosa resigns with Honda

Spanish rider extendes his contract with Honda for another two years

Dani Pedrosa resigns with Honda

DANI PEDROSA has signed a new contract to stay with Repsol Honda in MotoGP for the next two years.

Pedrosa’s decision to resign with Honda, the team he’s been with since 2006, puts an end to speculation that he was on the verge of moving to Yamaha to take Jorge Lorenzo’s seat at the end of the current season.

Speculation elsewhere in the paddock has Maverick Vinales leaving Suzuki MotoGP to join Rossi at Yamaha, and Pedrosa’s decision to stay where he is until 2018 means there could still be a seat for the young Spaniard at Yamaha.

Speaking about his new contract with Honda, Pedrosa said:

‘I'm very happy to be able to announce my renewal with the Repsol Honda Team. I'm very grateful to Honda for the trust they've shown in renewing with me for an additional two years. I think it's best for me to continue with the company I was with at my very first race.

Pedrosa’s news comes before the Italian GP at Mugello this weekend – which will be his 250th grand prix race.

Pedrosa has been a Honda rider for his entire career, during which he’s been a 125cc world champion and double 250cc champion and has been runner up in MotoGP three times. HRC Executive Vice President Shuhei Nakamoto added that he values Pedrosa’s loyalty:

‘We're very pleased to renew our contract with Dani, and we really appreciate his loyalty to Honda and HRC.

We've been working together for many years, but we always see in Dani the same passion and dedication. His experience is very important for helping our technicians to develop our bike, and we'll do our best to help him to demonstrate all his talent!’
