Not only kids in the street but people that park their cars in the street when the driveway is 1/4 mile long. That drives me nuts.

Hmm I was agreeing with you until you typed that sexist nonsense. No need to denigrate us considering we're as varied as men in our personalities.

Back to the thread. In this country, children used to often play unaccompanied in the streets, far from home as late the as the early 80s, however a cultural shift and consumption of various media drove parents to keep them sheltered in their backyards or community playgrounds and under watchful eyes. Just because you don't see them as much doesn't mean they're not there.

Children, although not as prevalent on the streets as before, aren't the only reason not to do wheelies on public roads. I'm a cyclist and have an elderly father-in-law and partner who like to take walks or jog on the streets (this city, county, and state have deplorable infrastructure). The OP may be the best stunt rider ever known, but the chance of him crashing into others like myself increases much more vs. keeping two wheels down.

I know wheelies are lovely. It's a shame the OP doesn't have convenient access to excellent dirt-riding areas like Tennessee, Utah, Alaska, or Hawaii. Seeing a dirt-bike relegated to a few risky thrills in cookie-cutter CastleRock suburbs, is like seeing an R1 racing from stoplight to stoplight on Westheimer. Every type of a bike has a proper environment which it was designed for and thrives in. It's nice to see a dirt-bike that's actually street-legal unlike the *12 O'Clock Boys in Baltimore and New York City. Please do the wheelies and speed on dirt instead.

As for the truck driver, speaking to your neighbors and HOA about how you and your family are different riders and showing that through your actions will go much further than threatening a young man online. When my partner and I moved here from abroad, we received a chilly response from our neighborhood when they saw our motorbikes. Eventually, we convinced most of them that not all riders were hooligan racers or in outlaw gangs.

Whether children belong on the streets is myopic and missing the point. It's simply acknowledging that your life affects others and you have a responsibility to them. As this planet becomes more crowded, an individual has leeway. This means speeding on empty and rural roads, not using MotoGP mufflers and redlining it at 3 AM in your driveway, etc.

*(this what people mean when they say you give others a bad reputation)

I like acting a fool in the right places, but that was not the right place. Nothing worse than stepping outside to take the trash out and see someone speeding down your street, or acting a fool. I like to be one of the few that can get away with that type of BS because when it is all said and done, I can apologize to my neighbors if I annoyed/bothered them... strangers will get the harsh treatment in my neighborhood and we love our torches and pitch forks.

Funny the OP states he couldn't do the things he was doing in his own neighborhood but some how it's ok to do it in someone else's hood. This is part of why I live in a gated community.

I guess these signs were meant to be installed inside the play ground and not at the entrance of a neighborhood......

I always thought that sign was to let drivers know that there were retarded kids in the neighborhood.

Some how I get the feeling that both the sign and that sentiment are both appropriately applicable to you.

I used to play all the time in the street...roller blade hockey and whatever else we wanted. Local PD didn't care about us playing in the street either and most people drove past about 5mph asking who was winning...I guess that's the difference between a community and a neighborhood.

I would have no problem letting my future children walk down the middle of the street in my neighborhood.

You do know that Texas law REQUIRES pedestrians(this would include joggers, skaters, wheelchairs, foot scooters, and bicyclist) to use the sidewalk when present. I have a feeling is has something to do with keeping said individuals safe from contact with 3000lbs cages that have the power to kill with a relative speed differential of just 5mph.

We have rules for a purpose and they only work well when everyone plays by them, otherwise it all gets messy and you eventually need a lawyer.
