Rockets to interview former player Kenny Smith for vacant head coaching position

The Houston Rockets continue to churn through the candidates as KPRC Sports has learned Kenny Smith will be interviewed by the Rockets management.

The former Rocket has spent the last 17 years as an NBA analyst on TNT but has kept a close relationship with the organization and Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander.

Smith was part of the back-to-back Rockets championship teams in 1994 and 1995.

The Rockets are also planning to interview former Phoenix Suns head coach Jeff Hornacek and current Charlotte Hornets assistant coach Stephen Silas.

Those three join a group of previously interviewed candidates, current Los Angeles Clippers assistant Sam Cassell, who also played for the Rockets during their two championship seasons; and current Rockets assistant coach Chris Finch, who has been on the Rockets staff for the past five seasons.

Rockets interim head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, who coached the team over the final 71 games to a 37-34 record, also interviewed with the team but has since withdrawn his name from consideration.
