Hill Country hotels

Anyone familiar with the Blanco - Fredericksburg area, that can recommend a good, cheap hotel? Looking to do a weekend trip in Sept to sample some backroads, and want something between the Leakey 335/336 and Lime Creek area..

thanks in advance! :notworthy

In Kerrville the YO is right on I10 at Hwy 16 that runs out to Medina and 337.

I like the Inn of the Hills on Junction highway in Kerrville

Neither of these are really cheap, but are in the $100 - $150 range.

In Fredericksburg, the Sunday House Inn is a good one

If you're looking for a more involved trip, the River Inn Resort is out on Hwy 39 about ten miles past Hunt (maybe 20 miles from Kerrville) It has rooms right on the river with BBQ pits, refrigerators, a sweet swimming hole on the guadalupe river, and is really laid back. From there, on 39 west, it's only about 10 miles (maybe less) to 187 that goes south to 337 and Leakey.

If I was going to ride the roads south of I-10 like 337 and all the other lesser known ones around Garner State Park, I'd want to stay somewhere in Kerr County or Bandera County. (Medina doesn't have anything)

Fredericksburg is for tourists and antique shoppers. Blanco is a solid hour and a half from Medina, prolly more.

How many beds in the cabin? We are going to have between 3 and 6 riders.. Comfort is a little South, but still an hour or so back up to Marble Falls.. hmmm

Not looking for something with pools and gyms and bars and fishing...

We're going to ride and need somewhere to sleep.. pretty much

I imagine there is the usual Motel 6 etc.. just figured I would see if anyone had suggestions, and thanks for those who have..

Don't want to get too far South, that just adds to the road time to get back up to the 1431 Lime Creek area the second day.

I've stayed at both, and the YO is a lot nicer (but more expensive). They are both good places to stay in the area.

I may have to rethink and maybe stay two places.. first night closer to the Medina area, maybe Kerrville, then move up towards Austin the second night.

Drawback is having to check out and pack the bags along for the twisties, which is what we wanted to avoid.

Search will continue! Thanks!

The more I look at maps, looks like Fredericksburg will be the place.. about 50-60 miles from either spot we want to ride (Medina-Marble Falls Bees Cove)

Heck, it takes me that long to get to the good roads around here. Not bad at all. :icon_bigg

fri - Houston to Fredericksburg, along the way sample 32/12, Twin Sisters

Sat - south to 335/336/337

Sun - North to Lime Creek 1431

Mon - home, backroads thru Fayetteville

Sounds "dooable"

if you get on 71 between bee caves and 281 before marble falls. there are some nice turns!
and if you go into marble falls... rigth before you cross the bridge...watchout. 35 is the speedlimit and there is usually a white van taking pictures and sending you a ticket in the mail ha. (and the first resturant on the left after u cross the bridge..river city grill, i helped weld the lower deck up)

I have found a couple good possibilities in Fredericksburg; I need to call them next week and see how they sound.

Been planning our routes for the 4 days and looks like we'll be able to hit some real good spots, without killing ourselves too bad. Fredericksburg sits right on Hwy 16, which is the perfect N/S route. 50 miles either way to Marble Falls or Medina.

Friday, Houston to Fredericksburg, via the Devils Backbone and Twin sisters

Sat, South down thru Leakey and hit the 3 Sisters 335/336/337

Sun, N to Marble Falls, 1431, Lime Creek back down 71

Mon, home via Bastrop and Fayetteville and good ol' Racer Road.

Sounds like fun, no? :icon_bigg

Econo-Lodge in Kerrville is $70/night and has breakfast. Just across the street from the Y.O. and they let you park your bike under the front awning.

I've stayed there several times and will this week too.

I usually stay at the Y.O.
If you're a HSTA member the rates are usually $69.00 - $75.00 a night.
