What do you use to get rid of gasoline stains on a plastic fuel tank?

I've used Nu Finish before. Wash and dry it first, then apply it with a damp rag. Let it haze over and buff it out. If it does not remove, you may want to clay bar it. I'm assuming this is a painted plastic... if it is matte, then that's a different story and I wouldn't know how to clean that.

I don't think you have "stains". What you have is an area that has been bleached by the gasoline. Essentially the some of the coloring has been removed.

Agree your best bet is paint although unlikely it will stick well enough.
