Katy High School baseball team vacates 20 wins following KISD hearing

The Katy High School baseball team is forced to forfeit 20 wins after a hearing Friday morning in Katy Independent School District, according to district officials.

The school's athletic department was notified April 12 about possible UIL rule violations by two members of the Katy High School Varsity Baseball team. KISD said the players received payment for serving as assistants for a youth baseball team from Feb. 22 to April 11.

The 19-6A District Executive Committee determined the players were in violation of the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules, Section 4411, Amateur Athletic Rule. KISD said the team will have to forfeit the 20 games won between Feb. 22 and April 11.

The District Executive Committee recommended the minimum penalty, which is forfeiture of contest during the time the athletes were ineligible, according to KISD.

The district released a statement saying, "The school and the District understand this is a very unfortunate incident as the team has worked very hard during the season, but it is important that Katy ISD abides by the rules and regulations of the UIL, as it is expected of all school districts."
