Texans to release quarterback Brian Hoyer

One day before the Texans begin their offseason program, the team is set to release quarterback Brian Hoyer, KPRC Sports has learned.

Hoyer saw action in 11 regular season games last season for the Texans, including nine starts. He also started their playoff game at NRG Stadium against the Chiefs, which the Texans lost 30-0.

Hoyer threw four interceptions in the game and lost a fumble, accounting for five turnovers in the disappointing loss.

Prior to the 2015 season, Hoyer signed a two-year deal with the Texans.

This offseason the Texans signed free agent quarterback Brock Osweiler to a four-year, $72 million contract, which made clear the direction the team was taking at the quarterback position.

The team also re-signed Brandon Weeden and still has third-year pro Tom Savage among their quarterbacks on the roster.
