Rockets rout Kings 116-81 to clinch playoff spot

The Rockets punched their ticket to the postseason with a 116-81 win over the Kings in the last game of the season.

James Harden scored 38 points. The victory made the outcome of Utah's game against the Los Angeles Lakers moot since Houston owns the tiebreaker against the Jazz.

The Rockets never trailed and had a 64-44 lead at halftime behind 16 points from Harden and 10 each from Dwight Howard and Michael Beasley.

They won their last three games to sneak into the playoffs after losing three of the previous four to fall behind Utah and into ninth place in the West.

Houston will meet top-seed Golden State in the first round of the playoffs this weekend. The Rockets fell to the eventual champion Warriors last season in the playoffs.

The Rockets were 0-3 this season against the Warriors, outscored by an average of 116-104.
