Daily Craig: Quiet please

CBS and Houston dude Jim Nantz will go from screaming to whispering this week. From the 3 that did it at NRG to the $1.50 egg salad sandwiches of Augusta. Jim won't have to pay. He isn't the only one who has to change his ways. Fans or Gallery members are now Patrons. At least those who can get it. After all, it is "tradition unlike any other" True. It won't be mistaken for bowling or poker. THE MASTERS is the only major that never changes golf courses. It began in 1934 when Horton Smith won the first and the poor guy didn't get a free tee shirt let alone a green jacket.

I have always been the one who figured the final round was rigged. If it isn't how come the jacket ALWAYS FITS the winner? Every time. I have to go back twice to get a fitting and I just wear a blazer to have a cocktail. The first ever GREEN was given to Sam Snead in 1949. He could only wear it on St. Paddy's Day. I am just guessing on that bit of trivia. No tournament was held from 1943 to 1945. There was no time for golf with a War. However, i can't believe who won the thing when it picked up again in 1946. Herman Keiser. He wasn't a Scot. Our own Jackie Burke won it in 1956 and people in Houston still love him for it. As a Marine in WWII he told me he mostly played golf. I missed that MOS.

So this jacket business is still with us. You win you get one jacket. You win again, you don't get another one. Jack has won it 6 times and only has the 1. Arnie and Tiger have won 4 times. Again, one jacket. They will tailor it again if you have either dropped or gained some tonnage. So there is that perk. It pays well too, but we can't be so rude as to mention money. However, it is enough to buy jackets for all your buddies Excuse me, Patrons. Or you could yell "The egg salad sandwiches are on me".
