Haslam tops BSB Silverstone test
The 2016 British Superbike season is set to begin next weekend
FORMER World Superbike contender Leon Haslam has took to the top of the time-sheets win the British Superbike test at Silverstone by finishing 0.122s ahead of Michael Laverty.
With the British Superbike season set to begin next weekend, the test at Silverstone was the final indicator for teams on how they have progressed during the winter months. Haslam on the JG Speedfit Kawasaki and Laverty on the Tyco BMW have been suitably impressed with their pace.
The final session of the day was a battle of times with Christian Iddon, Haslam, Danny Buchan, John Hopkins and Dan Linfoot all taking to the top throughout the day, but Laverty held the leading position into the final five minutes.
Haslam stole the leading position on his final lap at Silverstone and is now looking forward to making his British Superbike return next weekend:
'Today has gone really well; for me to come to Silverstone one week before the first race was a big test of where we are at, and how what we have tested in Spain works now we are back in the colder conditions. So far we have evaluated two more things that we needed to do and we have had a good race run.
'It seems to all be going to plan, we want to keep pushing and improving but I am leaving here really happy with how the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team have worked together here.'
Filip Backlund forced his way up into third place on his Quattro Plant Cool Kawasaki just ahead of Iddon on the second Tyco BMW whilst Danny Buchan sat out the first session before fighting back to move up to fifth on the combined times for the Lloyds British Moto Rapido Ducati. .
Shane 'Shakey' Byrne was seventh fastest on the Be Wiser Ducati ahead of ePayMe Yamaha's John Hopkins with Richard Cooper and Jason O'Halloran completing the top ten, covered by just 0.844s.
