Rossi Interview: Tire Rule

http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2007/Jul/070723-46.htm

Dude is up front and calling out Michelin.

"Because all the fans like the riders and like the manufacturers. You have Ducati fans, Yamaha fans, Rossi, Stoner, Capirossi, everybody. But nobody is Michelin fan or Bridgestone fan."

True.

Talking about Rossi. I just watched the GP races last night with the DVR. They metioned that rossi makes $20 million a year and is in the top 10 of ALL people pay wise in sports.
amazing.

I'm a bridgestone fan as well.

But when it comes down to it, I don't remember either one of us ever cheering for bridgestone for bridgestone to win. I'm glad that they are, but you know.. They're just chiny round, black things.

I do......everytime
Bridgestone podium sweeps = 3:notworthy
Michelin podium sweepd = 0

For the record I liked Stoner even when he rode on Michelins. Rossi is a favorite of mine as well.

Q Like all the other manufacturers, Yamaha could go and get Bridgestone tires if they wanted. They could do this.

A. Now I don't want to say nothing very strange this early. I trust in Michelin. I don't know why, I don't have a reason because Bridgestone is a lot, a lot better than Michelin. More or less have equal. But we'll see. We'll see. But for sure, we have another seven races for try to come back and try to fight with the Bridgestone.
Wow. Couldn't imagine a team switching tires in mid-season... I seriously doubt their contract would allow it any way.

On another note, I could "hear" Rossi talking while I was reading that article

I was sort of thinking the same thing. I don't remember him in interviews in previous years saying that he felt sorry for other riders because he had such a superior advantage w/ his Michelins.:eh: Michelins had a far greater advantage over Bridgestone the last few years and all the talk was about how great Rossi was.

So all those times he won a race w/ a 10-30 second advantage it wasn't the tires giving him such an advantage?

The teams must decide by Thursday what 31 tires they will use for the entire weekend, which includes practice, qualifying, and the race. I believe it's 14 fronts and 17 rears. I may have that backwards, though...

You have it correct, 14 F, 17 R.
EVERYONE, including the Bridgestone shod riders, must follow the rule. Sounds like whining to me.

I wouldn't lose respect for the DOCTOR. Had he not crached in previous race he would still be nipping at Stoners heels. You of most people Pat should understand how rules and regulations can infulence the sport. Didn't you read that post a few months ago where I jocked Hopper because of his riddin style and how it will benefit him greatly with the new suzuki with the 800cc machines? You don't fiddle in the middle of MotoGP for 6 or 7 years and eat a bowl a Wheaties and then go out start shinning having every manufacturer bid for you the next year.

IMO The tire rule is hurting the Yami boys. With the tire limitation , last second decisions are tuff. I'm not saying I'm for it or against it but Edwards said it best "It's like showing up for the Masters and not able to choose your pitching wedge."

It's MotoGP.....the best of the best. Let the boys play with whats out there.

As far as Rossi..... He has givin Stoner full respect and Duc. Duc hit the hammer right on the nail and did a amazing job this year. There isn't a manufacturer out there that probably saw Duc's comming like this. But then, they have always been respected for their speed and power. Now they have the right pilot.

All this means to me is the manufacturers need to step it up. I believe some of the tire companies were better prepared for the rule. This first year with all the new changes is ruff. I think next year alot of kinks will be sorted and the true riders will shine.

PS.... People that give up on people so easy scare me. I would want them in my corner. They probably turn there back on me in a heartbeat say something goes wrong......:icon_bigg ooops I have a hole in pocket .02

Yep, it is abolutely hurting the Yami boys as well as the Honda boys, but it is not unfair in any way. Michelin's just haviing to scramble to compete when the playing field is fair for a change...

I might catch some flak for saying this but ....

They need to BAN traction control and all the engine management . Let's go back to spinning tires and cable throttles. Maybe that's why I've been more attracted to AMA lately.

Why do you think Spies and Mladin destroy the other teams? It's not just the rider. The Yosh Suzukis have the best electronics/traction control packages out there...

I thought this was the premiere class? One would think that meant premiere access to tires as well. I think this particular rule may be hurting MotoGP in general. I definetly think there should be some tire regulations but limiting the quantity at this point seems a bit ridiculous.
