DIY LoJack

Interesting. Buy the chip, download the app, and sync the chip with your phone. They're running a 3 for 2 special that ends today. Comments say the replaceable battery lasts for about 18 months. Work is blocking the main site, so I haven't been able to dig further.

Wouldn't be surprised. I really couldn't find anything about it other than the page I linked. Trying to figure out how it works. I highly doubt that it's a GPS transmitter.

If an item goes missing, TrackR's Crowd GPS network will help you find it. When another user of the TrackR app comes within 100ft range of your lost item, you will receive a GPS update of where your item is.

It's crowd based so I'd guess it's effectiveness will scale proportionately with the number of users...in our area.

Would love something like this for my kids(toddlers) when we go to crowded events.

Yeah it is dependent on the people that have the app on their phones nearby. Great idea but everyone needs one. If they could get apple and android to embed the technology, then they would have one of a product.
