If you carry full coverage insurance you really don't need uninsured motorist if you are willing to pay the deductible out of pocket correct?

Fast forward a few months, I get a letter from dps saying "send an estimate for damages so we can take action, respond by x date". I forgot about the letter until a few days before the deadline, so I stop at a body shop and get an estimate, which totaled around 1500. and set it to dps. Fast forward another 6 or 8 months, I get a call from some dude who needs to settle with me because he owes me 1500

bucks, and his license will be suspended if he doesn't. We ended up going to a notary who setup a sort of contract so the dude could pay me 100 a month, and if he missed a payment I could just call dps, and his licensed would be suspended. I got the full amount. No court or anything.

My guess is a judge stipulated compensation in a plea. Should be SOP.

An accident with no insurance violation and ticket to other driver at fault will result in possible suspension of license by TX DPS--given that the driver at fault HAS a drivers license in the first place.

You would have to go to court to get a judgement. Which doesn't mean a lot if they aren't a citizen with assets.

Not trying to argue, but I never went to court or did anything else. The guy that hit me called and said "I need to settle with you because my license is being suspended".
Like I said, that was about 15 years ago, and it took me by surprise, but I got paid in full.

Not really. Only difference is smaller deductible with FC insurance.

Sounds like a ripoff to me.

Could you not, in the event of a hit and run, just say that your car was parked on the street and you came outside to find the damage then just claim it as comprehensive and pay the decductable?

I know I dropped my uninsured motorist because it's expensive and my finance company never called me to let me know about it when I did drop it...

Sure if you don't mind committing insurance fraud, you could do that.

So wait a second if I decide to drive on no sleep and I fall asleep at the wheel, FC will pay if I pay deductible.

If I decide to do something extremely dumb like flat out run a light and hit someone, FC insurance will pay with a deductible.

If I get drunk and decide to rearrange my cars around int he driveway and I total two of them, FC insurance will pay with a deductible.

If a hail storm up my car, FC will pay with deductible.

If a meteor hits the car, FC will pay...

Want to protect your car from illegal mexicans? Yeah that'll cost 50% more
And I would be the one committing fraud? I think not.

Anyways the whole point is, at east in theory, what's the difference?

Some freak hailstorm comes and up your car, you walk out to find it...it's covered.
In fact, for any reason if I just walk outside to find my car completely ...that's covered...

Some freak POS with no insurance runs into you and you happen to be driving at the time, yeah that's not covered...but if your car was parked when it happened you're covered?
Yeah all that what a racket

Justify it however you want, it's still insurance fraud.

I supposed my "justification" was a long version of "no I don't mind committing insurance fraud"

Would I actually go through with it? I doubt it. Not worth the risk.

Happened to my ex as well.

Woman was also a citizen, and eventually had to pay up to avoid license suspension

What if I'm parked on the street, sitting in the car with the keys in the ignition listening to the radio(motor is off) and someone with no insurance hits my car and runs...is that a hit and run, or is it comprehensive?
