Post RIP: 21 year-old rider dies on his first ride in Spring

http://www.chron.com/local/article/M...le-6872144.php

Borrowed his friend's bike, seems like a GSX-R600, and crashed into the side of a house on his first ride. Looks like he was only wearing a Bilt full-face helmet and short gloves.

I'd never let any of my friend's ride my bikes unless I knew they were experienced and mature riders with full gear.

that's sad. R.I.P. That may scare people involved away from motorcycles for generations.

I know people mean well, but there is a reason its state law that only licences instructors are permitted to teach motorcycle operation. Its not just teaching people where the controls are its also about providing a very controlled environment over a specific period of time to learn those skills. I'm not saying this rider wouldn't have killed themselves with proper instruction but you don't see many people having run away crash at in actual schools with a closed range.

Yikes. I saw something similar happen when I was 17. Guy got on my friend's bike. Hadn't ever ridden and gave it full throttle in the First Colony mall parking lot. Hit a stucco pillar on the sidewalk of the store fronts. He and the bike were literally stuck inside the pillar. Didn't die but probably wished he had for a short while.

These situations suck. This is why I never let anyone that doesn't ride, use my bike. And even then, I still don't let anyone ride my bike that can't afford to buy me an exact replacement if they total my bike out. I know that's what insurance is for, but it's the principle that I'm standing by.
