Rockets, guard Ty Lawson reach buyout agreement

After 60 games the Houston Rockets and point guard Ty Lawson finally acknowledged that it wasn't working.

The team reached a buyout agreement with the disappointing point guard.

Lawson was acquired from the Denver Nuggets in the off-season for a package of players in return for a Rockets first-round draft pick protected top 14.

He began the season as the starter alongside James Harden in the back court, but was moved into a bench role after just 11 games with the team only 4-7 on the season.

After finishing third in the NBA with 9.6 assists per game last season in Denver, Lawson managed just 3.4 assists per game in 53 contests with Houston this season.

Lawson struggled all season with his shot, connecting on just 39 percent from the field and 33 percent behind the three-point line, both career worsts for the seven-year veteran.
