Pretripping for Big Bend

Longboarder, Brandontx and I just did a pre-trip for our up coming 7 dayBig Bend trip. We wanted to do a functional gear check and see how the bikes perform on gravel roads loaded down.
Went up to SHNF at a little known camping spot to bed down for a night, drink some beer, set up out tents and eat some freeze dried food.
Bikes performed flawlessly, early in the packing stage most of us figured out its going to be a tight fit trying not to overpack and overload our bikes for a week.

All in all was a fun trip. They bikes handled it all perfectly but man were they heavy. Hit some sandy spots and that was sketchy as . Oh and the KTMs wheelie even easier with all that weight towards the back!!

Lucky bastards! Went to Big Bend and Terlingua back in November with the wife and some friends; but didn't do any riding. You guys going to do in riding in Presidio as well? Taking the scenic route through Del Rio or just taking 1-10?

I'm much happier with my pannier-less setup. I bet I've shaved over 40lbs by going with a giant loop bag and kayak dry bag over the panniers and top box. With my current pack only weighing about 40 lbs I bet the weight has been cut in half. My bike felt soooo much heavier on my last trip. I don't understand how so many people use hard case panniers off road. They are ankle biting when you dab your foot. I'm used to riding dirt bikes where you can dab your foot and let fall behind you in a turn. I run over my own foot sometimes on the dirtbikes and I don't even feel it. Seems like panniers will break your leg if you do that. Also realized I need a bag within a bag to keep my clothes separate from my shoes. Opened the bag when I got home and it smelled horrible. Don't care if the bag stinks but don't want my clothes smelling like that. Those dry bags lock in the flavor.

Our first night will be short as we are only going to Bandera, so the 2nd day we will probably take out time and go the Hwy 90 route. Probably not going all the way to Presidio as we are going to explore the park off roading.

Your shoes stink that bad? Ill probably be bringing some gallon size ziplock bags for my underwear to lock in the "freshness".

Is it true you can really fit 2 men in a 1 man tent?
I think y'all call it "spooning"?
