Hero XF3R previews Buellassisted naked single

Hero XF3R previews Buellassisted naked single

HERO Motor Corp was a significant shareholder in Erik Buell Racing before that firm folded last April and the Indian company snapped up the research and development segment of EBR long before the rest of the company’s remains were auctioned off.

And this is almost certainly one of the reasons why. Although officially only a concept, the XF3R appears to be built around the same water-cooled DOHC single as the company’s forthcoming Buell-designed HX250R sports bike. It’s likely that it was developed alongside the HX250R in America.

Its showing in India this week comes after shipping records show that 25 prototypes carrying VINs starting with the letters ‘EBR’ arrived in India from the United States. Of the bikes – all described as prototypes in the shipping documents – 21 were fitted with 249.8cc engines while four used 124cc motors. Notably, the 249cc prototypes had three distinct VIN codes, most were either ‘EBRRAC’ or ‘EBRMHC’ while a few were ‘EBRMAC’. Could these codes refer to different models? It seems likely. The fully-faired HX250R has already been shown several times and is due to reach production imminently, and it makes sense that a naked version would also be offered, presumably with styling similar to the XF3R seen here.

The third model could easily be an adventure-style bike – just as EBR itself originally intended to offer its 1190 as the RX sports bike and SX naked bike, both reached production before the firm collapsed, and was due to add the 1190AX adventure bike to its range by now if the finances hadn’t run dry.
